President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Prof. Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Ishaq Oloyede whose second and final tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
The appointment, announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, signals a generational shift in the leadership of Nigeria’s foremost tertiary admissions body, with Aina set to become the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB.
Aina, who turns 40 in July, is widely regarded as a leading expert in computer engineering, digital systems, and institutional reform, with extensive experience spanning examination administration, public-sector technology deployment, and educational process optimisation.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina began his association with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early exposure to the country’s admissions and examination systems.
Those experiences, according to the presidency, shaped his long-standing contributions to digital transformation and reforms within educational institutions.
Over the last 15 years, Aina has worked at the intersection of technology, governance, and institutional development, advising federal and state governments on digital transition strategies, system architecture, and operational reforms.
At the age of 39, he emerged as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering, a milestone now followed by his appointment to lead one of the nation’s most strategic educational agencies.
Beyond academia, Aina has consulted for major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, particularly in areas relating to ICT infrastructure, examination integrity, and digital process management.
He is also affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
The presidency expressed confidence that Aina would consolidate on the reforms and institutional gains recorded under Oloyede’s leadership, particularly in strengthening transparency, efficiency, and technological innovation within JAMB.
President Tinubu, according to the statement, expects the incoming registrar to deploy his expertise and practical experience to elevate the examination body beyond the achievements recorded in recent years.
