As the year draws to a close, the Lagos State Safety Commission has called on residents to take greater responsibility for their safety and adopt preventive measures to avoid accidents and health risks.
The Director-General of the Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, issued the appeal during a weekend briefing, highlighting the challenges posed by the current weather conditions characterised by extreme heat and dry air.
“Once there is life, there is hope for a better tomorrow. The safety of lives must remain a top priority,” Mr. Mojola emphasised, urging Lagosians to remain vigilant.
He noted that the hot, dry conditions could lead to health complications such as dehydration, high fever, blurred vision, and exhaustion, all of which can be harmful.
To prevent fire outbreaks and related dangers, Mr. Mojola advised residents to refrain from smoking in public spaces and to avoid storing flammable substances or fuel in homes, shops, or stalls.
He called for collective action to maintain safety, encouraging Lagosians to collaborate with the government in creating secure and hazard-free environments in homes, workplaces, and communities.
Residents seeking further safety guidelines are encouraged to visit the commission’s website at www.lasgsafetyreg.com.
By adhering to these precautions, Mr. Mojola expressed confidence that the state could ensure a safer and healthier community for all.
