A suspected vandal, Umar Biliaminu, narrowly escaped death after being subjected to mob attack in the Iju area of Lagos State on Thursday.
According to Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Biliaminu was reportedly caught while attempting to cart away barbed wire from a perimeter fence in the area.
During his apprehension, the suspect allegedly injured one of the individuals who tried to restrain him, using a pair of scissors. The act provoked residents, who descended on him in retaliation.
Hundeyin confirmed that swift intervention by patrol officers from the Iju Police Division prevented the situation from escalating further.
“Our officers rescued the suspect from mob action, and efforts are ongoing to track those involved in this act of jungle justice,” he said.
The police spokesperson cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that jungle justice remains unlawful and poses grave dangers to society.
“Say no to jungle justice,” Hundeyin reiterated, urging the public to always hand over suspects to the police for proper investigation and prosecution.
