The Lagos State Government will on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, host the Lagos State Occupational Safety and Health (LASOSH) Conference, a flagship event designed to place safety at the heart of the state’s economic and social transformation agenda.
Themed “Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) as a Catalyst for Nation Building,” the conference is organised by the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC) and will hold at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island. It is expected to attract global leaders, policymakers, industry experts, development partners, and representatives of leading corporations.
Organisers noted that the conference comes at a defining moment in Lagos’s growth, as rapid urbanisation, industrial expansion, and population pressures increase exposure to risks such as building collapses, transport accidents, industrial hazards, and emergencies in informal sectors.
Beyond dialogue, the summit is designed to trigger concrete policy actions, aligning with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of making Lagos a model megacity that is safe, secure, resilient, and economically competitive.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Director-General of the Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, stressed that occupational safety was central to sustainable growth.
“Occupational Safety and Health is not just about compliance; it is about protecting lives, preserving dignity, and driving Lagos’s growth story. At LASOSH 2025, we are going beyond rhetoric—building a Lagos where safety is culture, resilience is powered by innovation, and every life counts,” Mojola said.
The programme will feature a keynote address by Governor Sanwo-Olu, a policy dialogue led by Dr. Olasupo Olusi, Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, on financing safety through public–private partnerships, as well as contributions from international representatives from Canada, Germany, Sweden, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Industry giants including Google, Ernst & Young, Lafarge, and BUA Group are also expected to participate in panel discussions exploring sector-specific safety standards, workplace innovation, and the future of work.
Anticipated outcomes include stronger legislation, safer workplaces, improved emergency preparedness, reduced accident rates, and higher productivity. By embedding safety into urban planning and industrial operations, the state hopes to protect lives while enhancing investor confidence in Africa’s largest city economy.
The LASOSH Conference will commence at 10:00 a.m. at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island.
