The Edo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gbenga Agun, has died after collapsing at an awards event in Benin City.
The Alarmee reports that the tragic incident occurred Thursday during a ceremony organised by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA).
According to multiple eyewitness accounts, Agun delivered a goodwill address before suddenly faltering.
One attendee said: “He jerked intermittently in his voice while delivering his speech. After his address, he returned to his seat and began to convulse.”
Following the collapse, Agun was rushed to the Military Base Hospital along Airport Road, Benin City, but medical teams pronounced him dead on arrival.
He had been receiving an award when the fatal incident occurred.
At this time, the Edo State NSCDC Command has not yet issued a public statement on the matter, and no official cause of death has been confirmed.
The community and security circles in Edo State remain stunned by the sudden loss of one of their senior officers, and tributes have begun pouring in from across the state.
