Death toll in the building collapse at 13 Wilson Mba Street, Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, Lagos, on Thursday has reached five, according to emergency responders.
A set of three terraces under construction had collapsed in the early hours of Thursday with people said to be trapped under the debris.
The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu had earlier said three bodies had been removed from the rubbles.
Given an update on Thursday afternoon, he said the death toll is now five.
According to him, the Agency responded to the incident at 3:40am and discovered that a set of three terraces under construction had collapsed.
“The search and recovery operations have been underway and a total of five adult male have been rescued and stabilized. Three of whom were taken to Gbagada General Hospital. The two other victims have been taken to the Trauma Center.
“Five fatalities have been recovered and their remains passed on to State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu said a combined team of agency personnel, Fire service and Nigeria Police were working at the scene as LASEMA’s excavator had been deployed to accelerate the search and rescue operations.
