The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) says it will sue the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio over alleged payment of ‘holiday allowances’ to senators.
Akpabio had in a trending video told senators that the clerk of the Senate had paid some money into their accounts so that they could enjoy their holiday.
He quickly withdrew the statement when he was told that the session was being aired live.
Akpabio now said he had sent prayers to the e-mail of members so that they could have safe trip back home for the holiday.
The video generated lots of controversies on social media.
However, SERAP, in a twitter post on Thursday vowed to sue Akpabio over the holiday allowances.
The body lamented that this was happening at a time millions of Nigerians were facing economic hardship.
“BREAKING: We’re suing the Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the alleged payments of “holiday allowances” by the Clerk of the National Assembly into the “various accounts” of senators while some 137 million poor Nigerians face severe economic hardship,” it tweeted.
