In a bold move aimed at curbing government extravagance, President Bola Tinubu has declared that Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Federal Agencies will be limited to just three vehicles in their official convoys.
This unprecedented directive comes as part of a sweeping initiative to reduce the financial burden of governance.
Effective immediately, no additional vehicles will be allocated for their movements, signalling a significant shift in the culture of official travel.
Today’s announcement, penned by the President himself, reinforces Tinubu’s commitment to fiscal responsibility. Earlier this year, he made headlines by slashing his own entourage for foreign trips from a staggering 50 officials down to a streamlined 20.
For local journeys, the number was similarly trimmed to 25. The Vice President also saw his entourage reduced to five for international travel and 15 for domestic excursions.
In an additional blow to the status quo, President Tinubu has stipulated that all ministers and agency heads can have no more than five security personnel assigned to them.
This security detail will consist of four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS), with no room for extra personnel.
Moreover, Tinubu has tasked the National Security Adviser with collaborating with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to assess and implement further reductions in their vehicle and security deployments.
