Nollywood actor and social media sensation Charles Okocha, popularly known as “Mr. Phenomenal” or “Igwe,” is intensifying his preparations for a much-anticipated rematch against controversial street-pop singer Portable, scheduled for July 31 at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Victoria Island.
In a recent Instagram post from his verified account (@charles_okocha), Okocha shared footage of a spirited training session with Afrobeats star Yemi Alade, affectionately referred to as “Mama Africa.”
The pair were seen honing skills ahead of the bout, with Okocha declaring they are “Getting ready to destr0y Portable on the 31st.”
The post, which quickly garnered significant engagement including likes from Yemi Alade herself, has fueled excitement around the event promoted by Balmoral Promotions as “Unfinished Business.”
The rivalry traces back to 2023, when a business dispute erupted into public accusations. Portable claimed Okocha owed him around ₦40 million from a deal, leading to heated social media exchanges before the pair first settled scores in the ring at Landmark Beach. Portable emerged victorious in that initial encounter, but Okocha has long disputed the result and pushed for a rematch.
This July 31 showdown forms part of the “Chaos in the Ring” series and comes shortly after Portable suffered his first celebrity boxing defeat to comedian Carter Efe.
Okocha sees the bout as a redemption opportunity, while Portable aims to rebound from that loss and reassert dominance.
Fans have reacted with a mix of amusement and anticipation to the training clips, with comments flooding in predicting outcomes and relishing the drama. The event will also feature other celebrity and professional bouts, promising a night of entertainment and high-stakes action in Lagos.
As the countdown continues, the collaboration between Okocha and Yemi Alade highlights the growing crossover appeal of celebrity boxing in Nigeria’s entertainment scene, blending music, film, and sport into compelling spectacle.
