The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Lagos State has declared its support for the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, signaling a major political alignment ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
Chairperson of the NLC in Lagos, Comrade Agnes Funmi Sessi, made the declaration before a large gathering of workers at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, stating that the labour movement in the state stands firmly behind the Deputy Governor.
Sessi noted that organised labour would continue to follow the leadership and political direction of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasizing that workers in Lagos remain united in supporting decisions taken by the administration.
She further pointed to the massive turnout of workers at the May Day celebration as a demonstration of solidarity, urging the Deputy Governor to recognize the strength and backing of the workforce, and assuring that labour remains available to support him when called upon.
In a similar vein, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Lagos State, Comrade Abiodun Aladetan, reaffirmed labour’s commitment to continuity and stability, aligning with the position expressed by the NLC leadership.
The development underscores the growing role of organised labour as a key political stakeholder in Lagos State, particularly as alignments begin to shape ahead of the next electoral cycle.
