In a historic move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, marking the first time a woman will lead the prestigious institution since its founding in 1962.
The appointment, effective January 10, 2026, for a four-year term, was announced in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. Dr. Odusote, currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, who concludes his eight-year tenure on January 9, 2026.
A seasoned legal academic with over two decades at the Nigerian Law School, Dr. Odusote brings extensive credentials to the role. She earned her LL.B. from Obafemi Awolowo University, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988, and obtained an LL.M. in company and commercial law from the same institution. She later completed a PhD in Law at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, focusing on public law and the administration of justice.
Joining the Law School in 2001 as a lecturer, Odusote has progressed through key positions, including head of the academic department, director of academics, and campus head. She has also served as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, published widely in reputable local and international law journals, and contributed to committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
In her new capacity, Dr. Odusote will oversee the institution’s academic leadership, administrative operations, and strategic vision across its multiple campuses. She will additionally act as the principal liaison with the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
This appointment underscores a significant milestone for gender representation in Nigeria’s legal education sector, potentially inspiring greater diversity in leadership roles within the judiciary and legal profession.

Wow go and succeed ma’am 💪
