The Lagos State Police Command has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, CSP Matilda Ngbaronye, who passed away on Friday after undergoing surgery at the Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundaare Jimoh, the Command described Ngbaronye as “a truly upright and dedicated officer who served with unwavering professionalism and integrity.”
The statement noted that until her passing, CSP Ngbaronye was widely admired for her diligence, discipline, and humane approach to policing, which helped strengthen relations between the police and residents of Festac and its environs.
“Her friendly disposition and commitment to duty earned her the respect of colleagues and members of the public alike. At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities,” the Command stated.
According to the police, the news of her demise came as “a rude shock to the entire Command,” adding that the Commissioner of Police and all officers deeply commiserate with her family and aged mother over the loss.
“The CP has personally reached out to her husband and elder brother, who is a priest, to convey the Command’s heartfelt condolences and support during this difficult time,” Adebisi said.
The Command noted that burial arrangements for the late officer would be announced later, while praying for the repose of her soul.
“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
