The Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed the Monterosa Construction site following a fatal crane accident that occurred on Sunday.
The Alarmee reports that the incident, which took place at approximately 7:30 a.m., resulted in the death of the crane operator, Mr. Rotimi Adesina.
According to preliminary findings by officials of the Safety Commission who arrived promptly at the scene, Adesina sustained critical injuries during crane operations and was immediately transported to Evercare Hospital in Lekki Phase 1, where he was later confirmed dead.
The site’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer was reportedly attending to the injured operator at the time of the incident and was therefore unavailable for immediate questioning.
The Project Manager, Hein Coerzer, and the Company Secretary, Ndidi Uchechukwu, were engaged by Safety Commission officials to provide initial information.
However, both stated that all documentation relating to the crane and other project operations are stored at the company’s head office.
The Commission has since issued a directive for all relevant documents to be submitted for a comprehensive review.
In response to the incident, the Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, ordered the immediate sealing of the construction site.
An abatement notice was also served to mitigate any immediate hazards and safeguard the lives of all personnel on site.
Mojola reiterated the state government’s position that safety must never be compromised under any circumstances.
“The safety of lives remains paramount,” he stated, assuring the public that the Commission is committed to identifying the root cause of the accident and preventing future occurrences.
He further extended condolences to the family of the deceased and pledged that the investigation will be thorough, with updates to be provided as it progresses.
The Lagos State Safety Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing strict compliance with safety regulations across all construction sites in the state.
