President Bola Tinubu will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27-28.
This is contained in a statement issued by Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga on Saturday.
He said the summit, organised by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, sought to advance “Mission 300,” an ambitious initiative aimed at providing electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.
Onanuga disclosed that the high-level event would bring together African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society organisations to discuss strategies for tackling the continent’s energy challenges.
He said key topics will include expanding energy access in underserved regions, promoting renewable energy solutions, improving energy efficiency, and encouraging private sector investment.
“On the summit’s opening day, ministerial delegations from participating nations, including Nigeria, will present their national energy plans, referred to as “compacts,” outlining approaches to achieving universal energy access within five years.
“The second day will feature the endorsement of the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration by Heads of State, solidifying a unified roadmap towards achieving Mission 300’s goals.
“President Tinubu is expected to deliver a keynote address reaffirming Nigeria’s dedication to universal energy access and its leadership in Africa’s energy sector. He will also highlight Nigeria’s clean energy initiatives and its strategy for integrated energy delivery across the continent,” he explained.
Accompanying President Tinubu on this important trip will be Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; Special Adviser on Energy, Olu Verheijen; and other senior government officials.
“The President is scheduled to return to Abuja after the summit,” Onanuga said.
