The FBI has confirmed that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the man responsible for the devastating attack in New Orleans early Wednesday, was found with an ISIS flag and explosives in his vehicle.
The Alarmee reports that tragic incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. CST when Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing at least 10 and injuring dozens more.
Following the crash, Jabbar exited the truck and opened fire on local law enforcement officers, who returned fire, resulting in his death at the scene. Two officers were wounded and hospitalized.
Jabbar, identified as a 42-year-old U.S. citizen from Texas, was driving a rented Ford pickup truck. The FBI is currently investigating how Jabbar acquired the vehicle.
In the truck, investigators discovered an ISIS flag along with weapons and a potential improvised explosive device (IED). Additional IEDs were found scattered throughout the French Quarter.
FBI bomb technicians are working closely with local law enforcement to assess the threat posed by these devices and ensure the area is safe.
This incident is being treated as a potential act of terrorism, and the FBI has taken the lead on the investigation. They are actively pursuing all leads to identify any potential accomplices or terrorist affiliations.
