The Kano Governorship Election Tribunal on Wednesday sacked Governor Abba Yusuf and declared Nasir Yusuf Gawuna of the APC as the real winner of the governorship election in Kano.
Gawuna was the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State and contested the election on the platform of the APC.
The three-member tribunal chaired by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a fresh Certificate of Return to Gawuna.
The tribunal cited cases of over-voting and that Yusuf‘s name was name was not in the NNPP register submitted to INEC.
In the March 18 governorship election in Kano, INEC had declared Yusuf of the NNPP winner, having polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat Gawuna, who scored 890,705 votes.
But the Tribunal held that 165,663 votes counted for NNPP’s Yusuf were invalid, because they were not stamped and signed.
The tribunal deducted the invalid votes from the total votes polled by Yusuf and it went below what the APC’s candidate scored.
The Alarmee reports that Gawuna was thus declared winner of the election.
