There were sporadic gunshots on Tuesday as two factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) clashed in Abuja.
The clash between the factions occurred at Sapele Crescent, off Ladoke Akintola Boulevard in Garki II, causing pandemonium in the area.
It was gathered that a faction loyal to former Lagos chairman of the union Tajudeen Agbede and another faction loyal to the national president, Tajudeen Baruwa clashed at the NURTW secretariat in Abuja.
It was gathered that NURTW members loyal to one of the factions came from Nasarawa to foment trouble.
It was reported that a clash broke out when supporters of Baruwa, marched towards the union’s national headquarters, which is currently occupied by the Lagos Park Management Committee led by Agbede.
Police operatives, in a bid to disperse disruption of activities by union members shot sporadically in the air and at other time, fired teargas.
The Alarmee reports that there was pandemonium in the area as traders and other scampered to safety. One person was reportedly killed in the clash.
