President Bola Tinubu has said Nigeria stands in solidarity with Morocco as they recover, rebuild and come out stronger after a devastating earthquake hit the country on Friday night.
More than 1,000 people are confirmed dead in the nation’s deadliest quake, with thousands of others injured and several buildings turned to rubbles.
The quake – measuring magnitude 6.8 – sent people rushing into the streets in Marrakesh and other cities. Many of the deaths were said to be in hard-to-reach mountain areas.
Tinubu, president of the world’s largest black nation, extended his heartfelt condolences to King Mohammed VI of Morocco following Saturday’s devastating earthquake in his homeland, which claimed many lives.
The President, in a statement, commiserated with all families who lost loved ones and all those otherwise affected by this tragedy, while wishing a full and swift recovery to those who were injured.
Tinubu assured the government and people of Morocco that the heartfelt prayers and thoughts of Nigerians are with them during this difficult moment of tragedy.
“In the face of this adversity, Nigeria will continue to stand in solidarity with Morocco as they recover, rebuild and come out stronger than ever from this unfortunate event,” the President said.
