World record holder, Tobi Amusan failed to fly on Thursday at the World Athletics championship in Budapest, as she placed 6th position in the final of the Women’s 100m hurdles.
The defending champions came a distant sixth position, running a dismal 12.62 seconds, a far cry from the 12.48 seconds she ran during the heat and 12.56 seconds in the semi-final.
The race was won by Jamaica’s Danielle Williams who returns to the top of the podium with 12.43 seconds eight years after her first World Athletics Championship 100m hurdles gold.
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won silver in 12.44 seconds while Kendra Harrison of the United States of America came third in a time of 12.46 seconds.
Amusan is still the world record holder in Women’s 100m hurdles which she set in last year’s World Athletics championship in the semi-final, followed up by a 12.06 seconds (+2.5m/s) in the final.
She won back-to-back Commonwealth and African titles in 2018 and 2022 in the 100 m hurdles and is also a two-time African Games champion in the event.
Amusan may have been affected by her suspension by the AIU which was lifted shortly before the tournament.
