In a bold move to safeguard students, the Lagos State Safety Commission has reinforced its commitment to ensuring that Model Colleges across the state strictly adhere to safety and security protocols.
At a high-powered training session tagged “Safety Sensitization for House Managers, Food Vendors, and Stakeholders in Lagos State Model Colleges,” the Director-General of the Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, represented by Mr. Seun Awojobi, delivered a strong message on the government’s zero-tolerance approach to safety lapses.
“As a responsible government, the safety of our students cannot be compromised. We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for them to learn and grow,” he declared.
The training, designed to equip house managers, food vendors, and other key stakeholders with essential safety knowledge, underscored their pivotal role in preventing hazards in boarding schools.
“You are the eyes and ears of the school, and we rely on you to help us identify potential safety risks and prevent accidents,” Mojola emphasized, urging participants to implement their newly acquired skills.
The programme also featured a lineup of safety experts, each delivering critical insights on various aspects of student protection.
Dr. Ronke Soyombo, Special Adviser on Education in Ogun State and former Director-General of Education Quality Assurance in Lagos, delved into quality service delivery, emotional intelligence, and crowd control in boarding schools.
Mr. Adeyinka Adebiyi, retired Director of Public Safety and Well-being at the Commission, educated participants on food safety, hygiene, and risk identification.
Mrs. Soyoye Bamidele Oredola, Principal of Lagos State Junior Model College, Badore, stressed the importance of effective communication, urging house masters and caregivers to be attentive listeners and problem solvers for students.
Engr. Olukotun Odunayo, Chief Fire Officer, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, alongside Mrs. Bosede Akanni, provided life-saving lessons on CPR, evacuation procedures, fire prevention, and emergency response.
Participants, drawn from various Lagos State Model Colleges, were equipped with training materials and safety signages to help enforce newly introduced protocols.
