Violence has been reported at the French Embassy in Niger Republic when thousands of supporters of Military junta in the country protested at the Embassy.
The supporters stormed the embassy in Niamey, the capital of Niger on Sunday, as they condemned the action taken by France against the Military Junta.
Media reports that the peaceful demonstration later turned violence. Paris condemned the violence in front of its embassy and called on the authorities to ensure its security in Niger.
France 24 quoted a spokesperson from President Emmanuel Macron’s office as saying that should anyone attack French nationals, the army, diplomats and French interests, they would see France respond in an immediate and intractable manner.
The spokesperson added that Macron would not tolerate any attack against France and its interests.
“France also supports all regional initiatives” aimed at “restoring constitutional order” and the return of Niger President Mohamed Bazoum, Macron’s office said, as the West African regional bloc ECOWAS was readying to discuss the Niger coup during a summit in Nigeria.
