President Bola Tinubu has commended Nigeria’s impressive 91.45% Effective Implementation (EI) score in the latest International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) safety audit-the highest the country has ever recorded.
The ICAO audit, conducted under the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP), evaluates countries’ compliance with international aviation safety standards. Nigeria’s new rating significantly surpasses the West African average of 61.1% and the global average of 70.4%.
Speaking after a debriefing by the ICAO team at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) headquarters in Abuja, the President praised the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, led by Festus Keyamo SAN, for the achievement.
Tinubu noted that the improved rating strengthens international confidence in Nigeria’s airspace and positions the country as an attractive destination for aviation investment. He urged the Ministry to implement all ICAO recommendations to further improve and sustain the rating.
The milestone aligns with the President’s agenda to develop a safe, efficient aviation sector as a key driver of economic growth and regional connectivity.
