President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an immediate and coordinated security crackdown to track down and apprehend the terrorists responsible for the deadly attack on Kasuwan Daji community in Niger State.
Terrorists had stormed the community, killing 30 people and abducting others.
The President directed the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure that the perpetrators are hunted down and brought swiftly to justice.
He also mandated all relevant security agencies to urgently rescue women and children abducted during the attack.
President Tinubu issued the directive on Sunday following reports that terrorists, suspected to be fleeing from neighbouring Sokoto and Zamfara states after the United States’ Christmas Eve air strikes, carried out killings and abductions in the Kasuwan Daji area.
Condemning the attack in strong terms, the President described the assault on innocent villagers as barbaric and unacceptable, stressing that those responsible had crossed a red line.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Government and people of Niger State.
“These terrorists have tested the resolve of our country and its people. They must face the full consequences of their criminal actions,” the President said.
“No matter who they are or what their intent is, they will be hunted down. All those who aid, abet or enable them in any form will also be identified and brought to justice,” he added.
President Tinubu assured residents of Niger State that security operations have been intensified around vulnerable communities, particularly those located near forests that have long served as hideouts for criminal elements.
He also called on Nigerians to remain united and resolute in the face of the tragedy, warning against divisive rhetoric capable of undermining national cohesion and security.
“These are times that demand our shared humanity,” the President said, adding that “We must stand together as one people and confront these criminals in unison. United, we can and must defeat them, deny them sanctuary, and restore peace and security to our communities.”
