Nigerian superstar Tiwa Savage has broken her silence regarding the private video leaked in 2021, insisting she was the victim of blackmail and that claims suggesting she released it for publicity are false.
In an interview with U.S.-based radio station Hot 97, she described how she faced a barrage of public shaming and misplaced blame from both individuals and influencers, accusing many of overlooking her victimhood.
Savage revealed that the video was initially used as leverage by someone attempting to extort her, a request she reportedly refused.
She expressed frustration over the narrative that painted her as seeking attention. “If I were doing that, I would’ve been intentional about it. I would have used better lighting, lingerie, and my facial expressions would have been on point,” she said, underscoring that her actions were not meant for show but stemmed from integrity in refusing blackmail.

Savage also reflected on the emotional toll, describing the period as one of her darkest moments. She said it hurt that many on social media, especially those with large platforms, amplified criticism rather than offering empathy.
In response to the fallout, she used her song “Loaded” (with Asake) to reclaim part of the narrative—addressing the issue head-on.
Savage’s clarification arrives amid renewed public conversation about consent, privacy, and victimhood, reminding audiences that leaks and non-consensual distributions of private content constitute serious violations-against which she says she continues to stand firm.
