Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Saturday issued a stern warning to governors attempting to interfere with the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, vowing to fiercely protect the party’s control in the region.
The Alarmee reports that Wike was speaking at the PDP state congress held at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt.
Wike assured party members that the PDP’s dominance in the state would remain intact under his watch.
“Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us,” Wike declared.
In a fiery statement, Wike criticized certain governors who, according to him, are plotting to seize control of the PDP structure in Rivers State, only to hand it over to others.
He warned these governors to prepare for the consequences of their actions.
“I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states,” Wike warned.
“When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace – anything you see you take,” he added.
Wike also hinted at a financial incentive behind these plots, alluding to the governors’ newfound confidence after receiving funds from a signature bonus.
“Because I heard they got some money from a signature bonus, and so their heads are getting big that you will put a hand in my own state,” Wike said.
“Prepare because I have the capacity to also do the same thing in your own state,” he warned.
“Whether you are from Bauchi, I don’t give a damn, whichever state you are from, as far as I know, that you are trying to put yourself in Rivers State, your hand will get burnt, and you will never sleep in your state,” Wike further warned.
