Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has called on Nigerian governors not to see the Supreme Court judgement granting financial autonomy to local councils as an affront.
The Alarmee reports that the Supreme Court affirmed in its judgement on Thursday that the local councils should be allowed to have full autonomy.
Onanuga in a tweet on Thursday said it is in their best interest to ensure that the judgement is fully implemented in their domains.
According to him, the local council is very important third tier of government and that its emasculation by the governors in the last 25 years had been at the root of the poverty and insecurity all over the country.

“It is in their best interest to ensure that the judgment is fully implemented in their domains. The local council is a very important third tier of government, and its emasculation by the governors in the last 25 years has been at the root of the poverty and insecurity we have all over our country.
“The governors must allow the councils to breathe and flourish again.”
