Governor Abba Yusuf has announced the reinstatement of the dethroned Emir Muhammadu Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano after signing into law the new Kano Emirate Bill (2024) into law on Thursday.
The Alarmee reports that Yusuf announced the re-appointment of Sanusi as Emir after signing the bill into law at the Kano State House.
The governor said the signing event was historic, while commending the State House of Assembly for passing the bill.
According to him, the Kano State Emirate law 2019 that divided the over 1000 years Kano Emirate into five had been repealed.

Yusuf after announcing Sanusi as the Emir, ordered the five Emirs appointed by Ganduje to vacate their official residence and hand over their instruments of power to the Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo who is also the Deputy Governor.
Ganduje had on 9 March, 2020, dethroned Sanusi as Emir and banished him from the emirate. Sanusi was in his private residence in Gidan Rumfa when he learnt of his removal, while awaiting for state officials to formally serve him the deposition letter a contingent of police, military, and security operatives stormed the palace.
Sanusi later accepted his dethronement as a divine act and urged his supporters to remain calm and avoid bloodshed. He also urged them to declare bay’ah to his successor Aminu Ado Bayero.
Born on 31 July, 1961, Sanusi served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2009 to 2014, ushering in banking reforms until his suspension after he brought to light the $20 billion oil scandal.
