Nigeria’s upper legislative arm, the Senate has confirmed the appointment of Olayemi Cardoso as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The hallowed chamber also confirmed the appointment of Emem Usoro, Muhammad Abdullahi, Philip Ikeazor and Bala Bello as Deputy Governors of the CBN.
Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu had nominated Cardoso as CBN Governor on 15 September, along with four others to serve as deputy governors of the apex bank.
The Senate, which resumed from its recess on Tuesday screened Cardoso and four others and found them worthy and then confirmed their appointments.
Cardoso is a Nigerian banker, chartered stockbroker and public policy maker who served as the former chairman of Citibank Nigeria and was the Commissioner for Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
