President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has effected a sudden reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, removing two ministers and elevating a key insider in a move aimed at tightening economic control and accelerating policy delivery.
The shake-up, announced in a memo from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, saw the exit of former Finance Minister Wale Edun and Housing Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
Edun has been replaced by Taiwo Oyedele, who was elevated from Minister of State to assume the powerful position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
In the housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named ministerial nominee and is set to take over the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, pending confirmation.
According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, all handover processes must be completed by April 23, underscoring the urgency of the transition.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume stated.
The Presidency said the decision was taken under constitutional provisions empowering the president to appoint and reshuffle cabinet members.
While no specific reasons were given for the removal of Edun and Dangiwa, the development signals a strategic recalibration within the cabinet, particularly in the management of the economy.
President Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and assured that further adjustments could follow, noting that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
The reshuffle comes at a critical time as the administration intensifies efforts to stabilise the economy and deliver on key infrastructure commitments, with Oyedele’s elevation seen as a decisive move to maintain momentum in fiscal and economic reforms.
