In a fiery Istanbul derby that had everything, drama, cards flying left and right, and pure Nigerian magic, Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen once again proved why he’s the king of the Turkish Super Lig.
The Galatasaray talisman rose like a colossus in the 39th minute to power home a thunderous header from Leroy Sané’s pinpoint lofted cross, burying it into the right corner past a helpless Besiktas keeper.
That single strike sealed a priceless 1-0 win for the Lions away at Vodafone Park on March 7, 2026, keeping Galatasaray firmly on top of the league table.
The match was no walk in the park though. Galatasaray played with fire from the start, bossing possession early on with slick short passes, but Besiktas fought back tooth and nail.
Osimhen himself picked up an early yellow in the 6th minute for a robust challenge, and things got heated with bookings raining down: Orkun Kokcu, Michael Murillo, Leroy Sané (who escaped a red initially but later saw red in the 62nd minute after a nasty tackle upgraded by VAR), and more.
Sané’s sending-off left Galatasaray down to ten men for the final stretch, turning the second half into a tense siege.
Besiktas threw everything forward-corners galore, desperate attacks, but Ugurcan Cakir in goal was a wall, pulling off heroic saves while Osimhen’s teammates defended like lions.
Even Osimhen felt the pain, gesturing for treatment late in the first half, but the warrior stayed on to inspire his side.
Besiktas pushed hard after the break, with chances falling to Hyeon-Gyu Oh who missed a sitter, but they couldn’t break through.
This victory is massive for Osimhen and Galatasaray. The Nigerian forward continues his red-hot form, adding to his impressive tally and helping his team extend their lead at the summit.
Besiktas, despite the home advantage and late pressure, couldn’t find that equalizer.
