President Bola Tinubu has approved new appointments to the governing councils of federal universities and named principal officers for the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.
In the fresh appointments, Hon. Chisom D. Obih has been named to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, following the death of a sitting member.
The President also appointed Professor Ralph Akinfeleye, a veteran communication scholar and former Head of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Akinfeleye, who currently chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television, replaces Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, recently appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.
For the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, the President named Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice Chancellor.
Other principal officers include Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.
Professor Yakasai, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel, currently serves as Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano.
He chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria and is a governing council member at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
A distinguished academic, Yakasai earned his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and later won a European Economic Commission scholarship for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
He holds membership and fellowship from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, a Master’s in Medical Education from the University of Winchester, as well as fellowships from the International College of Surgeons (USA) and the American College of Surgeons.
He has also served as Director-General of the Hospitals Management Board, Kano State.
