The Federal Government has dismissed as false a viral publication claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, the government described the report as “baseless, misleading, and completely untrue.”
The Alarmee reports that in the statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, JAMB remains the sole statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions across the country.
“At no point did the Ministry issue or authorise any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions,” the statement read.
The Ministry emphasised that the established admission procedures through JAMB remain fully operational and unchanged, urging students, parents, and educational institutions to disregard the false publication in its entirety.
Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the Ministry’s strong partnership with JAMB and other relevant agencies to maintain transparency, fairness, and merit in the nation’s admission process.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.
The statement further cautioned media organisations, bloggers, and online platforms against publishing unverified information capable of misleading the public or causing confusion within the education sector.
“The Federal Ministry of Education reiterates that there has been no change in the existing role of JAMB, which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework. Any publication or online post claiming otherwise is entirely false and should be ignored,” the Ministry warned.
Members of the public were advised to obtain accurate information only from the official communication channels of the Ministry and JAMB, including their verified websites and social media handles.
