The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), effective immediately.
The announcement, made by the outgoing FPRO, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, marks a significant transition in the Nigeria Police Force’s communications leadership.
Hundeyin, a seasoned communicator with a robust academic and professional background, is well-equipped for the role. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master of Science in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
His credentials are further strengthened by a Certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre in Jaji, Kaduna State.
Hundeyin is also an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), a member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).
Hundeyin’s career within the Nigeria Police Force reflects a blend of operational and strategic communication expertise.
Since March 2022, he has served as the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, where he gained prominence for his proactive engagement with the media and the public.
His tenure in Lagos was marked by efforts to bridge the gap between the police and communities through transparent communication and public sensitization campaigns.
Prior to this, Hundeyin served as the PPRO at Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, and as the Administration Officer at the Force Public Relations Department in Abuja.
In 2020, he contributed to Nigeria’s contingent in the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), gaining valuable experience in international peacekeeping and crisis communication.
IGP Egbetokun has tasked Hundeyin with leveraging his extensive experience to enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s public relations framework.
The directive emphasizes fostering continuous positive relations with the public, a critical objective amid ongoing security challenges and public scrutiny of police operations.
Hundeyin’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the Force’s image and improve trust with Nigerians, particularly in addressing issues like crime management, human rights, and community policing.
The outgoing FPRO, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has been reassigned to the Delta State Police Command as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations following his recent promotion.
Adejobi’s tenure as FPRO was noted for its robust media presence and efforts to humanize the police force through regular updates and public engagement.
The Nigeria Police Force described the transition as a routine administrative move to optimize manpower and ensure career progression, dismissing any speculation of controversy surrounding the change.
Hundeyin, reachable at 07062606717 or benjamin@hundeyin.com, is expected to assume his duties immediately.
