The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, on Wednesday announced a temporary shutdown of its result checker portal, www.waecdirect.org, citing technical issues affecting accessibility.
In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, WAEC assured candidates and the general public that efforts are underway to resolve the disruption, with access to the portal expected to be restored within the next 24 hours.
“WAEC hereby informs the general public that the result checker portal waecdirect.org is temporarily shutdown due to technical issues,” the Council stated.
“However, the Council is working assiduously to ensure that candidates are able to access their results in the next 24 hours. Please bear with us,” it added.
The disruption comes just days after WAEC released the results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), a development that had seen thousands of eager candidates flock to the site to check their performance.
Although the Council did not provide specific details on the nature of the technical glitch, it reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a seamless result verification process and urged the public to remain patient.
This is not the first time the portal has experienced traffic-related outages following the release of results, but WAEC has consistently managed to restore services swiftly.
Stakeholders in the education sector have urged WAEC to enhance the robustness of its digital infrastructure to prevent future service interruptions.
As of the time of this report, the Council had not announced any alternative means for result checking, but candidates are advised to monitor WAEC’s official social media channels and website for updates.
