Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has officially aligned himself with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a significant shift in his political journey.
In a post on X, Melaye declared, “SDM fully ADC,” confirming his new affiliation just hours after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Melaye’s move to the ADC follows months of speculation about his political future, driven by his vocal criticism of the PDP’s leadership and its inability to address Nigeria’s challenges.
The Kogi State chapter of the ADC presented Melaye with a membership card on Thursday, noting that he had been quietly supporting the party before making his decision public.
The defection, which comes alongside that of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, positions Melaye as a key figure in the ADC’s efforts to challenge the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political analysts view this as a strategic move to reshape Kogi State’s political landscape and bolster the ADC’s national presence.
Melaye, known for his outspoken style and colorful political career, expressed confidence in the ADC’s potential to address Nigeria’s pressing issues, including hunger and insecurity.
His announcement has sparked lively reactions on social media, with supporters hailing the move as a bold step toward a stronger opposition coalition.
