President Bola Tinubu has broken his silence over the latest massacre in Plateau State, where more than 40 innocent Nigerians lost their lives in yet another round of brutal communal bloodshed.
Visibly outraged, the President condemned the carnage in the strongest terms, calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to summon the political courage to confront the deep-rooted crisis head-on.
In a statement dripping with urgency and frustration, Tinubu charged the Plateau State leadership to look beyond surface-level firefighting and confront the centuries-old ethnic and religious divisions fuelling the violence.
“Enough is enough,” the President declared. “The ongoing violence between communities in Plateau State, rooted in misunderstandings between different ethnic and religious groups, must cease.”
As images of grief and devastation continue to emerge from the embattled communities, Tinubu did not mince words about the need for decisive action.
“I have instructed security agencies to thoroughly investigate this crisis and identify those responsible for orchestrating these violent acts. We cannot allow this devastation and the tit-for-tat attacks to continue.”
Tinubu, who has held discussions with Governor Mutfwang on multiple occasions over the years regarding the simmering tensions, reminded the governor of his duty to break the vicious cycle of violence.
“Beyond dealing with the criminal elements of these incessant killings, the political leadership in Plateau State, led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, must address the root cause of this age-long problem. These problems have been with us for more than two decades. We can no longer ignore the underlying issues. It is time to tackle them fairly and find a lasting solution,” he said.
Offering both comfort and a challenge, Tinubu extended his sympathies to the people of Plateau and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for state authorities in their search for lasting peace.
He urged leaders across communities, religious groups, and political affiliations to work as one in ending the deadly cycles of revenge that have left families shattered and communities traumatised.
“We must love one another. We must live together in peace, beyond ethnic and religious divides,” the President said.
Reiterating the Federal Government’s resolve, he pledged continued support for Governor Mutfwang’s administration in efforts to promote dialogue, foster social cohesion, and enforce accountability.
“These are crucial steps towards permanently resolving the conflict in Plateau,” he concluded.
The statement, issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, underscores a sharp shift in tone and a demand for urgency from the nation’s top office as Plateau once again bleeds.
