Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has won Saturday’s governorship election in the state, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva.
Prof Faruq Kuta, Vice Chancellor, Federal University Of Technology, Minna, Niger State, who is INEC’s Returning Office declared Diri winner of the election on Monday.
He said the governor polled the majority of votes and satisfied the requirement of the law.
Diri won the election by scoring 175,196 votes to defeat Sylva, who polled 110,108 votes.
Diri won in six local government areas while his challenger, Sylva won in only two. He won the election with over 65,000 votes.
Some of the local government results shows Diri winning Ogbia with 18,435 votes to beat Sylva, who scored 16,319 votes.
He also won in Yenagoa, polling 37,777 votes, while Sylva garnered 14,534 votes. Sylva won the poll in Brass with 18,413 votes, while Diri scored 12,602 votes.
The Alarmee reports that In Southern Ijaw, Diri won with 24,685 votes. Sylva scored 18,174 votes.
