President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has introduced a transformative wave of federal appointments, assigning 42 board chairpersons, two key agency heads, and a secretary to oversee critical national institutions.
The announcement, made on January 23, 2025, reflects a deliberate effort to balance expertise, regional representation, and a commitment to good governance.
Among the notable appointees is former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who assumes the chairmanship of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, bringing his administrative acumen to the aviation sector.
Equally prominent is Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, a revered diplomat, now tasked with steering the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs as its chairman.
In the energy sector, the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company gains a strategic leader in former Kebbi State Deputy Governor Sulaiman Argungu, while Senator Magnus Abe of Rivers State takes charge of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, poised to combat desertification.
President Tinubu has also demonstrated his focus on healthcare and education by appointing chairpersons across medical centres, universities, and national training institutions.
For instance, Hon. Emma Eneukwu of Enugu State will oversee the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri, while Barrister Felix Morka takes the reins at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation sees a fresh injection of leadership with Dr. Kayode Isiak Opeifa as its new managing director, charged with revolutionising the nation’s rail transport system.
Similarly, Raji Kazeem Kolawole steps in as Director-General of the National Board for Technology Incubation, a nod to the administration’s vision for technological innovation.
Highlighting the importance of delineating roles, Tinubu instructed the appointees to avoid interference with management operations, reinforcing their non-executive responsibilities.
The directive underscores his commitment to fostering efficiency and accountability in public service.
With these appointments taking immediate effect, Nigerians are looking forward to the impact of this team, carefully chosen to align with the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the appointments, signalling the administration’s resolve to strengthen governance and development across the nation.
