President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi by one year, effective September 1, 2025, to advance critical reforms, the Presidency announced today.
The decision aims to allow Adeniyi, whose term was set to end on August 31, 2025, to deepen ongoing initiatives, including modernizing the Nigeria Customs Service, implementing the National Single Window Project, and fulfilling Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stated that Tinubu commended Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and dedication.
The extension is expected to bolster the Customs Service’s mandate of enhancing trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
The move reflects the administration’s focus on continuity to achieve strategic economic objectives, ensuring Adeniyi’s expertise drives Nigeria’s trade and customs modernization efforts forward.
