President Bola Tinubu on Monday bestowed the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour on the Super Falcons and their 11-member technical crew, recognizing their outstanding achievement in securing Nigeria’s 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
The ceremony, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, also saw the President announce significant rewards to further celebrate the team’s success.
In a remarkable gesture, President Tinubu directed the allocation of three-bedroom apartments in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Abuja to each of the 24 players and the technical crew.
Additionally, he approved cash awards equivalent to $100,000 in naira for each player and $50,000 in naira for each member of the technical crew.
“I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team the national honours of the Officer of the Order of the Niger,” Tinubu declared.
“Additionally, I have directed the allocation of three-bedroom apartments in the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme. Then there is the cash award of the naira equivalent of $100,000 US dollars for each of the 24 players and the naira equivalent of $50,000 to the 11-man technical crew.”
The Nigerian Governors Forum, represented by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRasaq, further amplified the celebration by gifting N10 million to each team member, totaling N360 million for the squad. The gesture underscores the widespread national pride in the Super Falcons’ triumph.
The reception at the Presidential Villa highlighted the team’s resilience and dedication, cementing their status as national heroes.
