Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, and the Chief Executive Officer of Mudi Africa, Mudiagha Clement, have called on boys to embrace discipline, resilience, and focus as essential qualities for achieving success in life.
They made this charge at the closing session of the Lagos Boy Child Initiative (LBCI) residential workshop, organised by Lagos State First Lady, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
The three-day event, held at Agbowa-Ikosi Model College, brought together over 200 boys selected from private and public schools, orphanages, and technical institutions.
The 2025 edition marked the third in the series, following the inaugural session in 2022 and the second in 2024, with over 400 boys having benefited from the initiative.
Addressing the participants, Wahab urged them not to let their background define their future, stressing that determination and a clear sense of purpose are crucial to success.
He encouraged them to remain consistent in their pursuits, resist distractions, and cultivate the discipline to make the right choices.
He emphasised the importance of setting goals and staying committed to them, advising the boys to prioritise their dreams over financial gains.
“Find your purpose in life. Don’t allow your background to limit you. Ensure you have discipline and the courage to say no when necessary. Learn to speak out, remain consistent, and stay focused. Don’t chase money—chase your dreams, and the money will follow,” Wahab told the boys.
He further advised them not to be discouraged by their circumstances, whether related to their birth or environment, but to maintain a strong sense of direction. According to him, every boy must develop a vision for his life and work towards achieving it.
Commending the First Lady for initiating a programme focused on boys, Wahab noted that most empowerment initiatives often prioritise girls.
He highlighted the importance of nurturing young boys to become responsible men, stating that a well-guided boy child ultimately strengthens the foundation of the family and society.
Mudiagha Clement also shared similar sentiments, urging the boys to uphold strong values and take responsibility for their actions.
He stressed that discipline, integrity, and perseverance are key traits that will shape their future, adding that success is not defined by one’s background but by the choices made along the way.
The LBCI workshop, designed to empower boys with life skills, mentorship, and guidance, featured interactive sessions with professionals across various fields.
Through discussions, motivational talks, and practical lessons, the initiative continues to shape young boys into future leaders, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate life’s challenges.
